I found this place right down on the peer in Long Beach when looking online because Kelly and I were going down to see the Star Trek Tour at the Queen Mary. It is a large restaurant right at the end of the boardwalk (which seems a plastic fantastic version of Oaks Bluffs on Marthas Vineyard). It is quite large and has indoor and outdoor seating as well as a sushi bar. The service is good, and the food was quite tasty. I would certainly try this place again if I was in Long Beach.

Both Kelly and I had the California Style Clam Chowder, which is New England Style Clam Chowder with California Clams, which were tasty and not gummy at all. The Chowder was thick and quite tasty. And I liked the cracker that they put in their as well, tasted like a normal cracker, but sure didn’t look like it. I had a bowl and Kelly had a cup.

I know I am supposed to be dieting, but I went for the FIsh and Chips, which were quite tasty, though the batter was a bit too thick for my taste. It had 2 pieces of fish and french fries, and I used my regular malt vinegar to bring it to taste. The fish was quite good though.

Kelly had the crab cakes for an entree, and they were excellent, as was the tasty sauce they put on them, which was a chipotle aioli and it also includes some tasty field greens.

••••

This place was quite good, and has a great view of the Queen Mary, the harbor and the lighthouse across the way, and the outside tables are surrounded by plexiglass to keep the wind off, which is quite nice as you are right on the harbor. This place is pretty damn good.

Kelly and I wouldn’t even have known this place if we didn’t go with Tara and Rick. It is a cool looking place, built in the old 1920′s firehouse for the era, with hardwood floors, and craftsman light fixtures, and covered in photos celebrating the old history of Hollywood. Parking is non-existant, so pay for the parking, which is just North of it on Rowena. Their is a cool outside patio with heaters, and a huge bar, which is where the firetruck used to park, and is quite loud. And their is a smoking patio in the back, where the restrooms are. The main entrance is huge, and has a couple of chairs to wait, and check out all the old photos, they are very cool. The food and service was decent, but not great for the price. I have certainly had better, though the atmosphere was nice.

A Photo of the place from 1920.

They have a large menu of mixed drinks, and all start at about $9, which isn’t too inexpensive, but they do make a nice rusty nail.

Kelly and I skipped apetizers, but did try some of Rick and Tara’s. Tara had the crab cakes, which were pretty tasty at $8.50 for 4. And Rick hat the Moule Frite, fresh mussels win white wine tarragon broth with French Fries for $10, which was only OK. I wasn’t too impressed with either muscles or fries actually. And they had never heard of that dish before. Have to have it someplace really good.

For dinner I had the Seared Maine Scallops, with a watercress, frissee, charred haricot vert, roasted peppers and mint soy lime vinaigrette salad, which was honestly better than the scallops, which were only so so.

This place was alright, but not amazing. I would probably go someplace else instead of going here again.

•••

A side note, brought my camera with us and was taking some pictures, and forgot it in my car, and when we came down in the morning, my window was broken, and my camera stolen! FUCKING ASSHOLE! And he knew where the security cameras were, because we can’t catch his face. FUCK!!! Car is in the shop, and has been for 3 days now, and no word in 2. WTF! I have such bad luck!!

Here is the asshole who stole my camera. He has the camera and the stuff he stole from the other car under his shirt. He knew where the cameras were, and he left after he did it, but returned later in the night and threw out the bags on the second floor, so he either has friends here, or lives here! FUCK!!!

Right in the heart of downtown Burbank, and right by the AMC theaters, Kelly and I have eaten here before and kind of enjoyed it, but this experience I must say was pretty terrible, and I do not think we will be returning. The service was fine, but the food was pretty mediocre, and the breadsticks were tastless and awful, even with the oil at ever table, and even once we got a bottle of balsamic vinegar. I do like that they give you a pitcher of iced tea though. That is nice, but the food was only OK.

I should know better than to order seafood at a restaurant like this, but I had the Seafood special, which was OK, it was a Mahi Mahi with capers and a lemon butter sauce, but honestly the steamed veggies were the best part. And the fish was way overcooked, it would have been so much better rare, but then I can bet the fish was not too fresh.

Kelly had some pasta, which she only had about a quarter of, and didn’t take it home.

•••

Not an impressive meal at all, and they have a kind of salad bar, with cold seafood, which just looked terrible, and scary, I could never eat from there.

Stay away from this place.

On our recent trip back to Annapolis to take care of my father’s dogs, my lovely girlfriend Kelly had been fiending for a Ruben, so when doing a little look at main street we saw the sign in the Market House, and decided to try it for lunch the next day. We were both expecting a restaurant, but when we went in we learned that the Market House is a city owned premises where various food places rent and have stands, and the Galway Bay was one of those stands, where you get your food and take it outside to sit at little tables around the building or stand up at bars around the inside in between the food stalls. We were a little put off, but decided to give it a try.

We each got a Rueben and one big bucket of Fries, but they also have Fish and Chips, which they batter right in front of you and cook on the griddle. The Rueben was also done on the griddle and they put the corned beef, which was in stringy, but tasty pieces on the hot griddle and added the sauerkraut and let it cook, before adding cheese and putting it on rie bread, but instead of Russian dressing, they just used yellow mustard. The sandwich does not touch Victor’s for size, and it is abotu as greasy as could be, but it was pretty tasty. Certainly not the best Rueben I have ever had, but a decent one, if you could stand the grease (and it isn’t like Rueben’s are not already bad enough for you).

If you are ever on the main drag in Annapolis and want a Rueben this is not a bad solution, but next time I would hope to try the Rueben place that is up the main street further out of town.

Kelly and I were driving to get some lunch in Burbank today, and decided to try this place, because of the sign about how great the corned beef was, so we decided to try the Reuben’s. The Reuben’s I must say were pretty tasty, though not quite as good as Victor’s. Well worth trying out in Burbank though.

The Ruben’s are $10.25 and fries are another $2.75, and have a decent amount of corned beef, a lot of sauerkraut and swiss cheese on rye bread. And you can get dressing on the side (though it doesn’t come normally). A really good reuben, in fact it has been growing on me and I like it better and better every time I have it. I might like it better than Victor’s. Damn it is tasty! This sandwich is evil, I could eat it all the time!!

A small, strange little cafe, with decent food, and nice service. Well worth checking out in Burbank.

••••

Decided on something different today, and had the fish and chips, which were pretty damn tasty. I am sure it was worse for me than the Reuben, but damn was it good! 3 decent sized pieces of fish, fries and a side salad or soup. Yumm.

Damn I really do love this place. Went with our friend Rudy and he had the Rueben Burger with cheese and heeped with sauerkraut and it looked damn good too, though I am not sure it could tear me away from the Rueben.

Where my girlfriend wanted to eat was closed, so we kept driving down Riverside and saw this place right next to Baja Fresh, and decided to give it a try. I must say whomever wrote the menu did a fantastic job, because when you read it you will want to try everything. Everything sounds amazing, but the thing it is it is all lies. Especially ones like “WE ARE HOME OF THE GREASELESS PIZZA!” because this is damn greasy pizza, and the crust is just nasty. The food was terrible, and it took quite a long time as well. I was so unimpressed that I will never eat here again and tell anyone not to try this either.

We liked the menu so much, we decided we wanted seafood and pizza, and since we were breaking our self imposed diets to eat this (after a day at disney anyone needs a diet), we were going to try both, and ordered a medium pizza and fish and chips (and yes they have vinegar to put on it). First it took way too long, but the pizza itself was huge, especially for a medium, but that was were the goodness ended. The pizza sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste, the cheese was extra greasy so greasy in fact that you needed to sop it off with napkins. And the crust was awful, just not tasty. One of the first times that I skipped eating the crust.

Then the fish and chips. Wow this was bad. 5 small pieces of heavily overcooked fish in batter. It tasted overcooked and blackened and was not enough fish. And the big fat french fries were a bit soggy.

This meal was nasty. How does a place like this stay open? Sure it is cheap, but it is awful, just awful. If you are in the area, eat at Baja fresh.

I have been reading about this place for some time in Los Angeles, Magazine, and it kept ranting and raving about it, but I had never gone, probably because of it’s unlikely location in a mall next to Borders, a games shop, and Bed Bath and Beyond, but don’t let it’s location fool you. This is one of the 10 best meals I have ever had. Wow was this place good.

For my birthday dinner my mother took us out to dinner at this excellent seafood restaurant right on the lake with an amazing view of downtown Cleveland and the whole harbor. We got the best table in the house, right on the water, and the food was absolutely amazing. If you like seafood this place is top notch, and not that expensive at about $50 a person including appetizers, and if you can get the top notch seats then your view will be amazing.

We had the excellent calamari which we split between the 4 of us, and had 2 excellent dipping sauces.

For an appetizer I had mussels in a white wine and tomato sauce, which I enjoyed though my mom felt the sauce was a little much, but I just love muscles.

For dinner I had to go for the Tuna, which had a mango salso and ginger glaze and was served on both white and brown rice. Of course I got it rare, and I could not have been happier. It was excellent. A thick piece of tuna and the sauced complimented it perfectly without overpowering the tuna. Even the rice was exceptionally tasty.

For desert we got a small bailey’s irish cream cake which chocolate on it, which was also tasty, and I think my girlfriend would have loved.

I loved this place and highly recommend it.

This is a popular spot for islanders because of the excellent food, and we could tell because we had to wait for a table, though not too long. The menu is excellent with lots of choices including some delicious looking salads that were huge. We came for Chowder and sandwiches and were very pleased.

Admittedly I wasn’t so psyched about the Chowder, mainly because it had way too many bacon chunks in it, and wasn’t as nearly chocked full of clams as The Galley. I had to stop eating because of all the pork chunks in fact. It tasted great, but after The Galley it just isn’t the same.

I had a Sirloin Sandwich with horse radish sauce and it was great. A thin little steak that was quite tender and tasty. My mom and Kelly split a BLT but with a green tomatoe and seemed quite overjoyed.

This place is tasty and good, with reasonable prices and good service. Well worth checking out.
