Tom Yum Goong by Prachya Pinkaew (2005)
13 December 2005I was sold after seeing Ong Bak I was sold on this team of Tony Jaa and Prachya Pinkaew, and this film just cemented it more. Once again I hear complaints about the story, well it isn’t a bad story, it is just a simple story. Ong Bak was about a man going to get his stolen Buddha. In this film a man is going to find his stolen elephants. As simple as that, and a great set up for some incredible action scenes. I mean this film really has to be seen to be believed. The capoiera fight is unbelievable. This is a must see!!
REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS….
Tony Jaa returns, as an elephant handler, and trainer, who has learned to fight as the old warriors used to fight for their kings. He grew up with his dad and 2 elephants, but his father is tricked and killed, and their large elephant is taken as is his baby elephant. He must go to Australia to find his missing elephants, which brings him into the path of a strange cross dresser who is taking over the mafia and has a bunch of highly skilled martial arts henchmen. And his paths cross with an Australian cop played by Petchtai Wongkamlao (George from Ong Bak). Now the story doesn’t matter, it is all about getting to the fight scenes, and saving the elephants. And the fights are spectacular! A couple of wrestlers some great kickers, the Capoiera fighter, and the transvestite with a wip.
Damn this movie rocks!!!
