I just finished watching this Korean fable from 2002, and was so hoping to love it, and hope it would make me feel wonderful. The thing is it really didn’t. The kid was way too much of a brat, he was mean and unpleasant to his grandmother and the other kids in the neighborhood. I just didn’t like this bratty little emperor.

This is the story of a 7 year old boy whose mother has lost her work, and he is sent to stay with his grandmother. His grandmother is mute, and ancient and lives in the old village that she has always lived in. She must get her water by carrying it on her back with a pole. And she does everything she can to please the boy, but he doesn’t care. He steals he hair tie to try to buy batteries for his video game, he breaks her chamber pot, he wrecks he luggage rack. He is also mean to the other kids in the neighborhood.

Sure by the end he loves and will miss his grandmother, and does do something nice for her, but I don’t think it really makes up. This kid is way too spoiled and doesn’t deserve to be treated so well by his grandmother!
