The Third Man by Carol Reed (1949)
A film heavily influenced in Style by the 1940′sfilms of of Orson Welles and also starting him in one of his most mysteriousroles, and a role he was born to play. And one of his most memorable scenes, onthe Vienna ferris wheel where he gives a chilling speech about trading lives for$20,000 and saying how it is chaos that creates great things in the world, howSwitzerland only made the Cuckoo Clock. The one scene written by Welles himself, unlike the rest of the film which was so expertly written by Graham Greene. Thisis an amazing British thriller set in actual bombed out Vienna instead of somebacklot, which adds so much to the look, as the black and white and expertlighting by Robert Krasker. This is a real must not miss, with a greatperformance by Joseph Cotten, and a greatending.
