The Muppet Show Season 2 created by Jim Henson (1977-1978)
20 September 2007I grew up with the Muppets, and am even working on a puppet show with my friend Jared right now (you can see the initial test here), so I am a huge Muppet fan, and with the second Season the Muppets really hit their stride, and also a season where the guest list was mind blowing. This is amazing, and absolutely hysterical. From the completely insane (Peter Sellers) to great musicians and funny men. This is an amazing season of the show. If you haven’t seen it, you have missed out on a major part of my life, and if you have seen it, rush out and see it again, you know you want to, and if you have kids you should have this already. And make sure you watch the opening credits and through the ending if just to get the 2 Waldorf and Statler bits as well as Gonzo playing his horn, which is different each time. You will also note that these are longer than the initial US versions by one sketch, and while it does repeat once, it gives something new to capture your interest.
I have the first edition, which has a fury face for piggy instead of the photo, like the one for Kermit on the first disc.
Guest stars are Don Knotts, Zero Mostel (Nuts), Miltion Berle, Rich Little, Judy Collins, Nancy Walker, Edgar Bergan with Charlie Makarthy, Steve Martin (so funny on a “cancelled episode”, Madeline Kahn, George Burns, Dom DeLuise, Bernadette Peters, Rudolf Nureyev (his Swine Lake just killed me), Elton John (the only person whose clothes easily upstage the muppets), Lou Rawls, Cleo Laine, Julie Andrews, Jae P. Morgan, Peter Sellers (Damn he is really a lunatic), Petula Clark, Bobe Hope, Teresa Brerwer, John Cleese (another lunatic) and Cloris Leachman (when the pigs take over the show).
Just one of the best shows ever, and I so hope they do the new Muppet show done like the Office.
