The Host 괴물 (Goi-mool) by Bong Joon-ho (봉준호) (2006)
I had been meaning to see this Korean Monster film since I heard about it, but was too busy when it was in the theaters , and then on Korean DVD, but when I heard about the US HD DVD I decided to wait on see on HD DVD, and I must say I was not disappointed. Not only was this an enjoyable monster film, but this is certainly one of the best looking Asian Transfers I have seen (the other being HERO on HD DVD which looked amazing as well). The film is well acted, and the computer effects look pretty damn good, and really what makes this film even better is the acting, but you can’t help it with an amazing actor like Song Kang-ho (송강호)) leading the cast. Well worth checking out.
Song Kang-ho (송강호) plays the loser Park Gang Du, a burnout with a wonderful 13 year old daughter Park Hyun Seo [Ko Ah-seong (ê³ ìì±)]. Kang-ho works at the banks of the Han River running a cheap food stand run by his father Park Hie-bong [Byeon Hee-bong (변희봉)]. Things go bad when pollution from US military personnel creates a monster that attacks the banks of the Han, and Gang Du gets caught up in the middle of it, and his daughter Hyn Seo gets taken by the creature. The whole bank is then closed off by the army, and the people taken into custody, along with the sister Park Nam Joo [Bae Doona (배두나))] a bronze medal winning archer and the drunken college graduate brother Park Nam Il [Park Hae-il (박해일)]. And the whole family escapes custody to try and find the daughter, Hyun Seo who called her father on her cell phone before the cell died.
