Star Wars Clone Wars Volume One by Genndy Tartakovsky (2003)

8 September 2006

A series of shot Star Wars shorts done for the Cartoon Network to fall between the second and third Star Wars films. While I am not the biggest fan of Tartakovsky’s artwork, mainly because it is too strangely stylized (why does Anakin have a neck twice as big as his head) and because the actual frame rate seems low, but still the stories of these make much sense than the films. First off the Jedi are as bad ass as they should be, easily besting legions of robot, and once they introduce General Grevious he is as bad ass as she should have been in the films. Amazing just how much better that Tartakovsky seems to understand the Star Wars universe than George Lucas does. Certainly worth checking out, though this first disc is only about 69 minutes long. The only complaint is the only voice that is the same is Anthony Daniels, but it doesn’t harm this.

Starwarsclonewars

A series of animated shorts about the Clone War, featuring General Kinobi, Padwin Anakin Skywalker on his first mission to command space forces, but instead is tricked and goes to fight a force strong warrior of the dark side of the force sent out by Count Duku. We see adventures with Yoda and Padme, Mace Windu and some other Jedi’s as well as the introduction of General Grevious.

As I said this is worth seeing, though I wish it had been better animated. It does give me hope that once other people are given Star Wars that it will be better than Lucas’s recent crap though, so maybe the live action and computer animated series will actually be good. One can only hope.
