Read or Die: The TV (2003)

18 April 2005

I loved the movie of this, so was intrigued by the series, but was depressed that is wasn’t about Yomiko Readman or agent “Paper,” but I did like the new characters, so I was watching, and was happy to find that it was actually about Yomiko as well as the 3 new Paper Masters, and Yomiko’s best friend. This is an amazing series and really worth checking out. G4 TV has been airing 2 episodes a night, and it is well worth watching.
REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS….

3 Paper Masters from Hong Kong, Michelle, Maggie and Anita (from youngest to oldest) are enlisted to act as body guards for the very famous Japanese writer Sumiegawa Nenene who is on her way to Hong Kong, and then enlisted to be her bodyguards in Japan. Nenene started her writing career as a teenager, but now has lost the will to write, but she eventually finds inspiration from the 3 crazy sisters who end up moving in with her. She is also Yomiko’s best friend. Michelle and Maggie are book obsessed, and the young Anita hates books, as her first memory is of Yomiko burning the Library of England in a terrorist act. The sisters also do work for a shadow organization called Dokusensha, a Chinese organization, which leads them to chaos and trouble. Eventually Dokusensha takes Nenene captive, and the sisters must rescue her, and they all end up on the run, and eventually find Yomiko and learn about Mr. Joker, and his plans to revive Mr. Gentlemen who will help them rule the world under the United Kingdom, with the help of Junior, who turns out to be the daughter of the Amnesiac women with Yomiko who can also pass through walls (Juniors mother, and the villain in the movie). Mr. Joker is destroying all the books in the world, and going to give everyone all information, but at the cost of being run by Mr. Gentlemen and having their memories wiped to live in peace.
This show is really entertaining with top notch animation an intriguing story and great characters. Check it out!
