Paranoia Agent 2 True Believers by Kon Satoshi (2004)
29 March 2005This is the continuation of the Paranoia Agent TV series by the incredible director Kon Satoshi. I didn’t think I would see this for a while, but I didn’t even realize I already had it (talk about too many DVD’s :p ). In this first we think we are finding out the exact truth, but it seems by the end everything has unravelled again.
I am loving this series, and can’t wait to see more of it. I highly recommend this, as Kon Satoshi is one of the greatest anime directors of all time.
I
do need to rant a little bit about Geneon who released the first DVD with 4 episodes, and then only have 3 episodes on this disc for the same price. What a rip off. i have written them a letter before, and will probably do so again. This is a policy that is made just to rip off the anime fans that are actually shelling out the money for these releases, and they wonder why so many people share these shows online!

REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS…
The 2 Police detectives Karino and Mitsuhiro are investigating the captured Junior High School student who claims to be Shonen Bat. He can’t distinguish between reality and a game, but he does seem to have done at least some of the attacks, though he doesn’t seem to have attacked Sagi Tsukiko. The detectives locate the old grandmother who saw the original attack, and claims that Tsukiko actually attacked herself. She also tells of her grand-daughter who ran away from home, she was a father’s girl, but eventually the family broke up and she ran away. We also follow the young girl Taeko who seems to be the girl the grandmother is talking about, but actually turns out to be the Corrupt Cop from the first part. It turns out that in their new house he had set up a camera and was taking photos of his daughter stripping, so she ran away from home. A huge storm hits the Kanto area, and blows away the grandmother’s tent, and ruins the corrupt cops house as he is talking to his daughter who is hit in the head, by Shonen Bat. The detectives confront Tsukiko about hurting herself, but she seems to be attacked while sitting with them, and she claims she was once again attacked by Shonen Bat. The detectives go to the hospital and go to see the corrupt cop and his daughter. The younger detective Mitsuhiro sees the old man who has been writing all over the hospital, and introduces the preview to each new episode. He connects the old man to the story of Shonen Bat, and can’t quite figure something out, but begins to think that while Shonen Bat is one person, but can be in more than one place at once, and can appear to anyone who is cornered. Karino wants Mitsuhiro to take a break, but follows him to the shell of Shonen Bat where they see Shonen Bat having escaped and run through a wall, and the kid they have in jail is dead, and then both detectives are forced to quite, but Mitsuhiro is still trying to find Shonen Bat and has dreams of him being attacked.
As I said things start to come together, but then start to completely unravel. Mitsuhiro sees something with the old man, and something with a room of his own where he is broadcasting radio messages about Shonen Bat. I really don’t know what is going on, but I can’t help but be totally engrossed in this series!
