Northern Exposure Season 4 (1993)

20 May 2006

Damn this was such a good show and so off the wall and quirky with great characters and more character development. This is really a fun show, and this is the longest season yet at 25 episodes. At first I really felt like this was leaving Fleischman and O’Connel behind, but by the end they are back, it is just that all the other characters are getting their equal do, and onscreen time, though very little Adam this season. For anyone who has been reading this blog, this has been keeping me from watching much else since it is over 19 hours of episodes. That is a lot of watching!!!

REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS…

We see Mike Munroe (Anthony Edwards) come to town and prove a road block for Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow) and Maggie O’Connell (Janine Turner). Mike has environmental allergies and is allergic to everything so he lives in a bubble with an airlock, and becomes Maggie’s love interest though she doesn’t want to sleep with him because she fears she will kill him, that doesn’t stop her from having crazy sex with Fleischman when the evil Coho winds come to town. And the Joel gets depressed by Maggie and Mike’s public displays of affection, and then when Mike finds himself cured in a large part thanks to Maggie he leaves to become an environmental activist, leaving Maggie in a lurch.

We see Holling Vincoeur (John Collum) finally marry Shelly Tambo (Cynthia Geary) since she is halucinating and seeing dancers, and then she gets pregnant, and has some major redecoration that leaves his bowels in a bad place.

Maurice Minnifield (Barry Corbin) throws a huge party for himself and almost stops his korean son’s marriage to a woman because her father was his enemy in the Korean war.

Marilyn Whirlwind (Elaine Miles) sees the return of the flying man, drives Fleischman crazy when she goes on a trip to seatle and has town troubles when her family totem pole is revealed.

Ed Chigliak (Darren E. Burrows) finds his real father and meets him, and is almost married in an arranged marriage, but the woman already loves someone else, so that won’t work.

Another enjoyable season of sureality and fun.
