No Reservations by Scott Hicks (2007)
11 August 2007I can’t believe that this is the same director who did Shine and the amazing Snow Falling on Cedars, because this is an absolutely terrible, terrible film. It is a film that I was not going to go see, but there was not much playing when my dad came to town and he wanted to see it, and honestly we didn’t wait until the end, we walked out. The film is that bad. In fact there is no chemistry between Catherine Zeta Jones and anyone in this film. She is like a brick wall, she is terrible. The only that has any personality in the film is Aaron Eckhart, but he can’t do anything, when he has nothing to work with. Don’t even rent this film.
Catherine Zeta Jones is Kate, one of the top chef’s in New York, working for Paula (Patricia Clarkson), but she has absolutely no life outside of work, and cooking. Going to a psychiatrist (Bob Balaban) because her boss forces her to, but only talking food and cooking food for him. And her only worry is that her Souse Chef Leah (Jenny Wade) is very pregnant and she hasn’t found a replacement. Then when her sister and her daughter Zoe (Abigail Breslin) are coming to town, they are in a car accident, and her sister is killed, so she must take care of the daughter, though she knows nothing about children and is terrible at it, in fact she can’t even get the kid to eat because she only cooks gourmet food, but while she is out Paula hires a Souse chef from an Italian restaurant named Nick (Aaron Eckhart) and the rest of Kate’s world is turned upside down.
REVIEW CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS…
Honestly the film plods along, with Kate doing everything wrong, and not being able to deal with Zoe, but of course Nick can, and gets her to eat, and befriends her, and things start to warm up between Kate and him.

Honestly it was so bad and so predicable we walked out. I mean it didn’t even have good cooking scenes. THis film just sucked all the way around. I HATED IT! IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN MADE. What was Scott Hicks thinking? He must have needed a paycheck badly!!!
