My Wife is a Gangster 3 조폭 마누라 3 by Jo Jin-kyoo (조진규) 2006
23 May 2007Unfortunately this film is only a sequel to the first 2 My Wife is a Gangster film in name only, and the fact that it has a bad ass , martial arts weilding gangster chick, and it is a silly comedy, the story does not follow at all,and Eun KYung Shin nevers shows up. Not only that but the 2 leads have no chemistry, and I never believed the love story, it came from no where, and is totally not understandible. That being said this is still a fun popcorn action film. And not only that Shu Qi is as gorgeous as ever, and here as the daughter of a Hong Kong Triad Kingpin she has never been cooler. Sure much of the humor is from misunderstandings in translation, but you get some laughts, but not real chuckles. This film is a decent action film, not great but decent. And if youa re a Shu Qi fan you know you will see it anyway.
In Hong Kong 2 Triad leaders have a meeting, one is played by the great Ti Lung and named Lim, and the other boss requests that Lim have his half Korean daughter Aryong (Shu Qi 舒淇) to do a sword dance. She is doing it barefoot though, and the bad guys lietenant (Ken Lo Wai Kwong) has one of his minions break a glass and smash it on the floor, cutting her feat, so she flips through the air and puts her sword through the guys hand, and a gang war almost starts. The next day a mysterious woman kills the gang leader, and Aryong is blamed, so Ti Lung is going to send her away, and she agrees to go, but to the place of her chosing, and she goes to Korea in search of her mother. The local Gangster is having trouble with one of his lieutenants is trying to take over from him, so he sends the his lowest underling who also speaks a tiny bit of Chinese, this is the idiotic Ki Chul (Lee Beom-soo 이범수). Gi-Cheol and his 2 idiot henchmen totally misunderstand Aryong, and much silliness ensues until they end up hiring a female Chinese translator named Yeon Hee (Hyeon Yeong 현영), who is terrified by the gangsters and mistranslates Aryongs bad ass talk, where she will kill the gangsters if they don’t find her mother for her.

Of course their are huge misunderstandings at first, and the guys try to prove they are tough so that Aryong won’t be so strong willed, but instead she bests them at their own game, and when they go out drinking one night, Ki Chul gets too drunk and is puking in the bathroom, when the big bosses rival’s underling shows up with some men, and Aryong wipes the floor with them. Then people think Ki Chul did it, and he is in trouble, so his two men get taken, and he and Ki Chul go to get them. Ki Chul vows to fight the leader, but it is only with Aryong’s help that he knocks him down, and after getting beating by underlings, she takes out the whole gang, and causes Ki Chul to get moved up and become second in command in the gang.
Things get bad when a trio of assassins including a woman show up and target Aryong, but Ki Chul thinks they are after him, and maybe it is his boss, and a big car chase ensues. Things get funny when Aryong moves over to take the wheel, and ends up on Ki Chul’s lap, and as they bounce around, he gets a hard on, and it gets worse when they bounce down a flight of stairs. They then go into hiding, and Ki Chul takes Aryong to his home village and he stays with his family, and all the sudden she is interested in this fool.
Eventually Ki Chul’s two helpers show up, and then Aryong disappears because the assassins are there. She quickly kills the two guys, but has a hard time taking out the woman, who of course was hired by the Lieutenant to kill his own boss and blame Aryong. And back in Hong Kong the bad guys has blown up her father. Aryong is headed back to Hong Kong, and Ki Chul tries to tell her he loves her, but she is gone.
She sees her father as he dies, and vows to take on the boss, but Ki Chul shows up first. Aryong takes off and takes on the whole gang at a wedding, and manages to kill the bad guy, but not before Aryong is shot and falls from the building too.
But of course he lives by falling into a garbage truck.
Aryong is now the boss of the whole gang, but when Ki Chul takes off, she follows him to Korea and forces him to marry her, and they still have misunderstandings.

A fun action film, with silly comedy, and unfortunately no chemistry between the leads. Shu Qi is fine enough and a good actress to make the whole film even without smiling for most of it. The film can’t really decide what it is, but it is a fun watch, though still a let down compared to the first 2 films.
This below is the inside book with the autograph, anyone know whose signature this is?
My Limited Edition came autographed, but I am not sure by who, can anyone read this autograph?
