Muse at the Greek Theatre, Los Angeles, CA 07-19-06

19 July 2006

I had never heard of MUSIC, until I started listening to the music my girlfriend Kelly had listed on her MySpace profile, and some of the bands I was not so hot on, like the RASMUS, but I started listening to Muse and specifically the album ORIGIN OF SYMMETRY and I really liked it. Muse came off as huge lovers of both RADIOHEAD and PINK FLOYD, 2 of my favorite bands as is. So I started listening to THE MUSe and have really enjoyed their music, and ended up signing up for their mailing list, so when they had an LA show (only one week after their new album BLACK HOLES AND REVELATIONS was scheduled to come out) I ordered 2 tickets, one for me and one for my girlfriend. And I must say this was an incredible show. The opening band from New York wasn’t too impressive, but I had no idea just how talented the Singer/guitarist/piano player Matt Bellamy really was. If you can check out these guys on tour, you will not be disappointed.

This 3 piece English band really tore it up, not only with a great and epileptic inducing light show, but an incredible performance by Bellamy, basist Chris Wolstenhome and drummer Dominic Howard as well as a 4th touring musician who played a keyboard, synthesizer and xylophone, when Bellamy was too busy playing guitar to play another instrument. What really blew me away though was just how musically talented Bellamy proved to be, when he started playing the piano and broke into some classical piano I was flabbergasted by his skills, and when he came out with an acoustic guitar and did some spanish licks I was blown away, and then he made an acoustic guitar sound like I have never heard. And he showed off, with a different guitar for each song (and wireless) he must have many different tunings, and damn does it sound good. I mean I enjoyed the albums, and think the new album is amazing, but they are absolutely fantastic live. Bellamy is a phenomenal musician and must have gone to musical school because he is not just an amazing guitar player, he is very multi-talented.

Damn this was a good show, and I have a feeling MUSE is going to get really big in the very near future, if they are not already, because these guys put on a great show.

My only complaint is that T-shirts from $30-$45 dollars when I got awesome pre-sales tickets at the Greekf or $35 a piece make those shirts seem a little expensive!
