Mezzo by Umetsu Yasuomi (2003)
15 May 2005I was expecting this to be good because I enjoyed MEZZO FORTE, the ultra violent follow up to Umetsu Yasuomi’s KITE, and this is the continuation, though in TV form. It isn’t quite as violent, though is still as action pact, and has the same great characters thought with an upgrade in the character designs. This is well worth checking out, and I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
In this we once again follow Danger Service Agency with the super hot gun toting pig tailed Mikura, the gear happy pointed haired Harada, and the ex-cop balding Kurokawa. They go on a number of different adventures, including meeting a young girl who wants to become like Mikura and thus ends up helping them out a number of times. My favorite part are the last 2 episodes (well actually the last episode), but the last 2 are intertwined. The second to last Shell of Lies, Posi follows Harada and Kurokawa on what should be a simple investigation of a woman’s infidelity. In the second part, Shell of Lies, Nega we follow Mikura on her day going to visit her old friend, who is actually trying to kill her, as she was the lesbian lover of the insane woman that Mikura killed in MEZZO FORTE.
This is a very enjoyable series, with great action, and interesting charcters. Actually it reminds me a bit of Cowboy Bebop, from it’s bits of Fan Service, to it’s incredible action sequences. This is one that is certainly worth checking out!
