Men in Black MIB by Barry Sonnenfeld (1997)
11 November 2006This is a movie I can just watch again and again and again. I can’t say how many times i have seen it in fact. It is just an enjoyable film from all aspects. It has a great sense of humor, and the combination of Will Smith (who I find hysterically funny) and the straight man Tommy Lee Jones just makes for an incredibly enjoyable film. Barry Sonnenfeld really did a great job here, with great effects, perfect casting and a good solid story. If you haven’t seen this film, where the hell have you been?
This is the story of the Men In Black, a super-secret government organization that deals with aliens who come and go, but the public is kept blissfully unaware of the alines living among us. The organization funds itself with inventions it got from Alien worlds including velcro and microwaves. And this is the story of Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) who is searching for a partner, and comes a go getter NYPD officer by the name of James Edwards (Will Smith) who he thinks might be up to snuff.

The film stars with K and his partner D (Richard Hamilton) picking up an illegal alien on the border with Mexico, but D is getting too old, and is ready to retire so K caps him with his memory eraser, and has to find a new partner.
NYPD cop James Edwards chases down a perp who turns out to be an Alien and K becomes interested in him, and first brings him with him to find Jack Jeebs (Tony Shalhoub) an Alien who acts as a pawn shop owner, but actually sees Alien Weaponry. K then zaps James’s memory, but gives him a card to show up at headquarters and James along with a bunch of military recruits are put through tests, which only James test and he is given the option to become a an agent, and give up his old life and work with K for Zed (Rip Torn)
An alien prince is killed and he has an galaxy which is supposed to be on Orion’s Belt, which turns out to be cat. THe killer is a bug who landed in upstate New York and took over Edgar (Vinvent D’Onofrio). K and J end up running in with a woman who works at the morgue Dr. Laurel Weaver (Linda Fiorentino) who ends up having the cat, and who has realizes the dead bodies are aliens so K zaps her.
They chase Edgar, who gets the galaxy and takes Laurel prisoner, but they have ship. He heads for the old world fair where 2 ships were, and they head to stop him. Edgar drops his Edgar skin and becomes a bug and eats their guns, so K gets eaten to get back the guns and J stops him until K can get his gun back, and they get the galaxy and save the planet.
K then tells J that he is retiring, as J is his replacement, and he zaps him. And J ends up with Laurel as L his new partner, and we learn K has gone back to his old girlfriend from 35 years ago.

A great an enjoyable film with great effects and an enjoyable story. This is just a good film.
