M*A*S*H Season 4 created by Larry Gelbart (1975-1976)

17 October 2006

A new season and 2 new characters that would last till the end of the series. Of course Lt. Colonel Henry Blake had to be replaced, and for that we got Harry Morgan as Colonel Sherman Potter and Wayen Rogers had problems with the producers so Trapper John had to be replaced too, and with a new foil for Hawkeye, this is the very married B.J. Hunnicut (Mike Farrell). A show could lose allot with 2 major characters leaving the show, but damn if the new characters didn’t work, and work very very well. This is an amazing show, and it continued to be amazing.

Alan Alda plays Captain “Hawkeye” Pierce
Mike Farrell joins the cast as Captain B.J. Hunnicutt
Harry Morgan returns after a cameo as a crazy general as Colonel Sherman T. Potter
Loretta Switt plays Major Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan
Larry Linville plays Major Frank Burns
Gary Burghoff plays Corporal Walter “Radar O’Rielly
Jamie Farr plays reluctant Corporal Mazwell Q. Klingar

Here are some highlights.

The season starts out with WELCOME TO KOREA with Hawkeye returning from leave to find the insane Frank and Margaret in charge and turning the place upside down, but even worse Trapper has left and is going home. Hawkeye, has to say goodbye to his best friend, so he hops in with Radar who is going to pick up their new surgeon and heads to Kempo. They missed Trapper, but do find B.J. Hunnicutt and take him back to the 4077, but they take him to Rosie’s bar before reporting in, and boy do they get drunk!!!

CHANGE OF COMMAND makes everyone but Frank and Margaret happy, when Colonel Sherman T. Potter shows up to take command. Frank goes crazy and takes off, and everyone is worried about Potter, but he proves himself in surgery and then tells Hawkeye and B.J. stories about the still he had in an earlier war.

THE LATE CAPTAIN PIERCE has BJ getting a call from Hawkeye’s dad, but the phone is cut off, and they find out it is because Hawkeye was reported dead. He is getting no pay, and no mail, and his father thinks he is dead.

QUO VADIS, CAPTAIN CHANDLER? has Sindey Freedman showing up to take care of a bomber pilot who thinks he is Jesus Christ.

THE PRICE OF TOMATO JUICE has Radar doing all he can to get Potter tomato juice, which it turns out he is allergic to.

HAWKEYE has Hawkeye alone with a Korean family after his jeep turned over and he has a concussion.

SMILIN’ JACK is about a record breaking helicopter pilot who turns out to be sick, and has to be grounded.

THE INTERVIEW ends the season with a black and white episode set up as Interviews for a TV show.

Such a great show, and the cast change did nothing to harm the already amazing show.
