M*A*S*H Season 2 created by Larry Gelbart (1973-1974)

14 October 2006

More Hijinks of the doctors of the 4077, still with the initial silliness of the first 3 seasons with Lt. Colonel Henry Blake in command, the whole place doesn’t seem too military and with this season it starts really hitting it’s stride. This is such a good and enjoyable show with such good characters. I wish they still made dramadies this good now days.

Once again we have Alan Alda as Capt Bengamin Franklin “Hawkeye” Pierce as a drafted doctor in Korea who bunks with his best friend, the married and also womanizing Captain “Trapper” John McIntyre (Wayne Rogers) who love to torture their other tentmate Major Frank Burns (Larry Linville). Burns is a horrible doctor, religious and yet cheating on his wife wit the other military Major Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan (Loretta Swit), and the two of them are always going over the head of their not very GI commander Lt. Colonel Henry Blake (McLean Stevenson). Blake is assisted by his slightly psychic company clerk Corporal Water “Radar” O’Reilly (Gary Burghoff) and the major cast is rounded out by Father Francis J. Mulcahy (William Christopher) and the cross dressing Corporal Klinger (Jamie Farr).

DIVIDED WE STAND starts the season off with someone sent to see if the unit should be split up, which none of them went, better the hell you know…

FIVE O’CLOCK CHARLIE is a classic, where a North Korean airman with bad aim comes by every day at 5 PM and tries to hit the ammo dump put near the camp. Eventually major burns convinces the general to give them an anti aircraft gun to stop charlie but Hawkeye and Trapper make a big target so Charlie can get his target.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE OUTFIT has Hawkeye and Trapper trying to get the army to acknowledge that they shelled a local South Korean village, but it all gets caught up in red tape.

DR. PIERCE AND MR HYDE has Hawkeye refusing to sleep and working shift after shift as he loses his mind until they can manage to knock him out.

KIM is about Trapper wanting to adopt a young Korean boy who wins the hearts of the camp, until his mother returns.

THE TRAIL OF HENRY BLAKE has him being charged with treason for helping the Nurse Kratty who is based in North Korea, but helps women and children.

CARRY ON HAWKEYE has a nasty flu getting the whole camp except Hawkeye who has to do the job of all the doctors even when the army serum gives him the flu!

OFFICERS ONLY has Hawkeye saving a generals son, and they are given an officers club, and Hawkeye and Trapper must work to get the enlisted allowed in.

HENRY IN LOVE has Henry falling for a 19 year old, until reality sets in.

A SMATTERING OF INTELLIGENCE has two separate government agencies spying on the camp including the returning and insane Colonel Flag. And Hawkeye and Trapper play the spies off of each other.

Another great season of a great show.
