Sometimes I think I could be happy just watching Shaw films for the rest of my life, sure they are not all this good, but when you hit the gems it is such a special thing. And this film has it all: an evil bad, incredible martial arts and wuxia battles, 2 beautiful women, an enjoyable story (if as complicated as many of these get), great sets, wonderful photography. This film is amazing, and we get to see not only a young Rosamund Kwan but also Kara Hui. If you are martial arts film fan you should not miss this film.

The film starts out with a young martial artist Du Mengfei (Kenny Ho Ga Ging) being sent out by his master to do good for the world. Quickly he hears rumors of a dreaded Thunder Gang led by the evil Leng Tian Lei (Lung Tien Hsiang) who is capturing women from the Dragon Clan for unknown reasons, and is working with a corrupt official to take over. Du Mengfei runs into some of these thugs as they attack and try to kidnap Mu Wan Er (Rosamund Kwan Chi Lam), but he saves her. He then sees more thugs trying to kidnap another woman Li Sai Nan (Kara Hui Ying Hung) who he saves, but she is pissed because she was trying to be kidnapped. Sai Nan then does let her self get captured and gets taken to Leng Tian Lei’s base, but Menfei comes to save her, and she accidentally poisons him with her star and is only able to escape with him and not kill Leng Tian Lei. She will not save him until he agrees to help her kill Leng Tian Lei, but when cured he leaves because of her methods, not realizing she obviously likes him. Mengfei heads to the Dragon sect to tell them that Leng is after his daughter who is in the Dragon clan and it turns out to be Mu Wan Er, but Leng Tuan Lei shows up, but the old Dragon Sect master manages to fight him off, but uses up all his power, and the current master kicks Mu Wan Er out of the clan, though she is good and kind. She goes with Mengfei, but Li Sai Nan shows up to try and split them up, and Mu Wan Er goes on her own and is kidnapped and taken to Leng Tian Lei who threatens to kill her if he does not accept him as her father. Mengfei and Sai Nan show up to save her, and do, but Sai Nan’s stars do not hurt Leng, and Mengfei is hit by his freezing martial art which will kill him in 4 hours. Sai Nan saves him, but says she must take him to her uncle to get the final cure, so again Mu Wan Er heads off on her own this time to tend her dead masters grave. Sai Nan’s uncle wants to kill Mengfei till she claims he is her husband. When the uncle learns that she has sworn not to kill My Wan Er he makes her swear to poison her or she cannot return, so she heads to kill Wan Er, but doesn’t poison her and wants to fight her, but Mengfei wounds her and she returns to her uncle, but Mu Wan Er goes as well so of course Mengfei follows. At first the uncle just wants to kill her, but then he swears to let her and her father go if he comes and kowtows to his ancestors, but he plans a trap, though so does Leng who brings all of him men while Mengfei goes to get dragon clan. Leng and the Uncle fight and the Uncle is hurt, but not before Sai Nan shoots the trap and finally kills his invulnerability, but she also wounded Mu Wan Er with her poison. Mengfei fights his way through the Thunder Clan and come sot help and fights and defeats Leng Tian Lei, who goes crazy and sees the statues attacking him, though they are not, but Mengfei doesn’t realize that Sai Nan was hit by the freeze hit and will die since she was the only one who could cure it. Before she will give Mengfei the antidote for Mu Wan Er she makes him marry her, and confesses she loves him and will die, and dies kissing him in his arms. He burries her in a grave, and leaves, walking away from Mu Wan Er as well.

A sad ending, but a wonderful film. Damn it is totally bad ass! How many more Shaw gems are there? I hope they just keep on coming!!! THIS IS A MUST SEE FILM!!!
