Leave Me Alone by Danny Pang (2004)
25 January 2005Uggh. I should have known better, and not had my hopes up, but I actually read a good review of this piece of crap. I had high hopes. I like Ekin Cheng Yee Kin (if it was only for the Young and Dangerous films I would always like him), and I like Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin, and while the EYE movies weren’t great I thought the Pang brothers were decent. That didn’t prepare me for just how bad this could be. I should have known with the whole twins thing. The only good twins (and I don’t mean Charlene Choi’s band Twins, I mean movies about twins where one actor plays both twins) movie is TWIN DRAGONS, and that is Jackie Chan so… I mean even the car chases here are horrible, marred by awful computer generated effects that really degrade the film. Can’t Hong Kong films at least have good action?

Ekin Cheng stars as Yiu CHun Man a gay fashion designer in Hong Kong, whose twin brother Yiu Chun Kit shows up to visit, and borrows his car using Man’s driver’s license and kills someone in an accident. So Kit must keep pretending to be Man (though he is comatose). Man is enlisted by Kit’s girlfriend Jane (Charlene Choi) gets Man to come to Thailand to sign for a loan because Kit owes 10 million to a loan shark, but the bank deal falls through. Kit ends up waking up and having to deal with Man’s ex-gay lover who is also a police officer. Man and Jane end up hurting the loan shark and killing his brother who is a drug dealer (in a bizarre sequence with naked men in a bath), and when Kit finally shows up things are a mess, so they must run, but first he has to get Jane a passport. While he is gone Man and Jane are kidnapped and put in a building filled with explosives, and there is a huge shoot out and things end up happily ever after.
This movie is really bad. Just stupid, with silly comedy, and bad action, though some cool shots, but the script supervisor should be shot. In the end scene the 3 heroes have guns that change in almost ever shot. There are 45’s, an HK and a Beretta and they keep moving around. Yuck. Yes it was that bad that I was watching that.
I do not recommend this film at all a total loser.
