Kinsey by Bill Condon (2004)
I have wanted to see this movie for a while, as did my girlfriend. Liam Neeson is such a good actor, as are everyone in this film, and it really pull itself off. I had heard this film wasn’t sexy, but in fact it does get so because the whole crew gets into the sexual experimentation game. A very interesting look at just how backwards the US was sexually up into the 40′s when no one had in fact done any scientific research on human sex. A very good enjoyable film, and actually makes me interested in knowing more about Kinsey and what actually happened, and what happened to him in the period after the film.
I was very impressed in how well this film is done, with great editing, starting by having the researchers learn the method by questioning Kinsey, and giving his back story. Well written, acted and directed!

Liam Neeson plays Alfred Kinsey, man whose father (John Lithgow) was a preacher and railed against sin, and against his son when he decided to become a biologist, and to study wasps. As a teacher he was given the nickname Prok. As a professor he realized the students knew nothing about sex and was appalled, and wanted to study sex, and teach married or engaged and graduate students about sex. Kinsey marries his graduate student Clara McMillen (Laura Linney) and they have sexual problems because he is so well endowed, and Prok starts teaching his class, and studying human sexual behavior. He gets one grad student Clyde Martin (Peter Sarsgaard) who is bisexual to help and to figure out a way to question people so they answer truthfully about sex, and the method works, and they travel around collecting data, and learning so much about human sexuality that was never known. Eventually Prok and Clyde have a relationship that almost ruins his marriage, but they stick together, and eventually Clyde has a relationship with Clara. Prok gets funding and hires more helpers, Wardell Pomeroy (Chris O’Donnell) and Paul Gebhard (Timothy Hutton), and they begin their research, working on their first book, “Sexual Behavior in the Human Male” to be followed by more books, and the researchers and their wives all join in the research causing many problems. The book is a smash hit, and a best seller, but then they start on the second book on the female, and more problems arise, and the book is railed against as dirty and filthy and trash, and Kinsey and his researchers are watched by the FBI and have to go to national hearings. Kinsey’s health is failing, but he continues going on with Clara by his side.
And excellent film, very enjoyable and well done with amazing performances. I highly recommend it.
