I Love You To Death by Lawrence Kasdan (190)

9 August 2008

An absolutely hysterical dark comedy based on true events that occurred in 1984in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where a woman went to prison for attempting to murder her philandering husband, and he took her back afterwards, because it showed how much he loved her! Ha! This film absolutely kills me, not only with the perfect leads, but also the supporting characters. William Hurt and Keanu Reaves are hysterical, as is River Pheonix, and of course Kevin Kline, Tracey Ullman and JOan PLowright are just awesome. This is a must see, and will have you laughing and laughing and laughing.

Joey Boca (Kevin Kline) owns a pizzeria in Tacoma, Washington as well as some buildings that he also manages. He is married to the loving Rosalie (Tracey Ulman). A young man who works at the pizzeria named Devo (River Pheonix) is in love with Rosalie, but she just laughs it off, though she loves the attention. Joey is a horrible philanderer, always out cheating on his wife. He sleeps with tenants, and women he picks up at the bar, he is just always cheating. When Rosalie finds out, first she wants to kill herself, but then with her mother Nadja (Joan Plowright) they decide to kill Joey, but Joey turns out to be hard to kill.

The mom wires up his car to explode, but it misses him.

Then they give him sleeping pills in his spaghetti, and when he doesn’t die, Rosalie, gets Divo to shoot him, but he doesn’t die. Devo then goes out and gets two local drugged out losers Harlon (William Hurt) and Marlon James (Keanu Reeves) who also shoot Joe, but he is still alive, and even gets up and walks around, before going back to bed.

The cops show up too, but Joey claims he is fine, and they leave, but when Marlon and Harlon brag about what they did, the cops come back, and everyone is caught.

Joey lives though, in fact the poisoning slowed down his system, and saved his wife, and he realizes how much Rosalie loves him, so he bails them all out, and doesn’t press charges. He wants to prove his love to his wife, and they get back together.
