Final Destination 2 by David R. Ellis (2003)

15 May 2005

I have never seen the first film, but I watched this with my girlfriend and enjoyed it. It is pretty much an excuse for a huge car accident and many computer enhanced deaths, which makes the film pretty fun, and pretty funny too. An enjoyable film.

REVIEW CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS…

Kimberly (A.J. Cook) has a premonition of a horrible freeway pileup, and stops on the freeway off-ramp, stomping a series of cars, but a police officer, grabs her as rig comes and kills all the passengers in her car, and the accident happens. And like the first film where people got off an airplane because of a premonition, and then start randomly dyeing because they are on deaths list. And these people start dyeing in more and more violent deaths as they try and save themselves, and recruit the one survivor from the last film who is voluntarily in a padded cell to save herself, though of course she dies, as do the others as they realize they all would have died if the people in the plane had not gotten off, so they must all die too, and they find out that a new life can break deaths list, but the pregnant woman turns out to have lived in the accident (wow I remember now, doh), and so Kimberley lets herself die and be brought back, and ends up with the cop. At the end they are at a cookout with a family where a car accident in the movie happened, and a boy was saved by one of the people who died, so as he is at the grill it explodes and his burnt arm ends up the table. Of course if this had never happened, he never would have been endangered, so the whole paradox doesn’t work.

Really this whole movie is an excuse for all different sorts of gruesome deaths, and the deaths are fun if only they weren’t so digital.
