Everybody Has Secrets by Jang Hyeon-soo (???) (2004)

31 December 2004

Another bizarre Korean romantic comedy. Another where the bastard in the film gets away with it, he may not win, but he certainly gets away with it. I guess I enjoyed this film, but just as a single watch, I don’t really care to see it again (too bad I bought the Region 3 Special Edition DVD I guess).

This is a bizarre film about a man, Choi Su Hyun (Lee Byeong Heon) who meets and starts dating one of 3 sisters, the outgoing lounge singer Han Mi Young (Kim Hyo Jin), but also seduces the bookworm Han Sun Young (Ji Woo Choi) and even the married sister whose husband will no longer sleep with her, Han Jin Young (Chu Sang Mi). The film is told in 3 parts, starting with the lounge singer sister, then again from the point of view of the bookworm, and finally the married sister who sleeps with him before he is supposed to marry the lounge singer sister, who has now slept with her old boyfriend again. It seems loving more than one person is contagious in this film, as now the bookworm loves her professor (at least he likes her), and the married one loves her husband as well. And at the end Choi Su Hyun is out of the picture, and it seems out to do it again with a woman that gets broken up with while he looks on from his car.

A strange romantic comedy. And not great, probably because I don’t like cheaters, and this cheater gets away with it, and it seems everyone loves him. I half expected the sisters mother to sleep with him as well!

A one time watch, nothing too special, not horrible, but not great.
