Dan Rather Reports by Dan Rather, HDNet (2006+)

14 December 2006

I heard about this show, when Dan Rather was on REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER. After being fired from CBS, it seems the all 1080i HD network HDNet hired him to do a 1 hour news program. This week I started watching it, and it is a must not miss. The show is top notch, with gorgeous videography and in depth reporting of the kind the normal networks no longer do. It proves what a stupid mistake CBS made by firing this bastion of in depth news reporting.

The show is a solid hour, with only 1 Blue Ray ad in the whole show, and is well worth checking out. The episode I saw had 3 segments. One on the current effects of the oil spill of the exxon Valdeze on Alaska and it’s small towns around there that had ruined shores and fishing. The second segment on former trainers of the Iraqi military who tell of the horrible situation that still exists and how they don’t think it will ever be fully successful, and even if it can be it won’t be for many years, and many more trainers. And the final segment on Grizzly bears who are down to 800 in the US, with 400 in protected grounds, and yet may soon be off the endangered species list.

The entire episode of this week is on FORD motors and it’s attempt to make a turn around by laying off many of it’s employees and trying to get an entirely new lineup of cars in the near future to woo consumers. It also talks about Honda and it’s cars that are 80% made in America and making huge profits. An interesting episode, especially since my uncle worked in advertising for Ford lost his job recently in these layoffs.

This is a top notch show and I have set my HD TIVO 3 to record it each week. This is how news should be and how it should look.
