Born to Fight by Panna Rittikrai (2004)

10 October 2005

I checked this out because it is produced by Prachya Pinkaew who directed Ong Bak, so I expected a light story and amazing action, and i wasn’t at all disapointed. Sure the story is ridiculous, and just a means to have a war of fight scenes with athletes and gymnasts and thai boxers against evil men with machine guns, and even the bad guy who used drugs to win shows up here. If you enjoyed Ong Bak or just like old school over the top action where you can’t believe anyone did these stunts then this is an absolute must see.

REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS…

I have no idea the character names or the names of who played who, but the story is starts off with 2 undercover cops busting an evil drug smuggler who calls himself a general, but one of the cops is killed, but the other “supercop” survives. He goes on a trip with his sister, and her athlete friends who are going to a small rural village to hand out blankets and supplies and toys to the children, but the town is taken over by the general’s army who demand that the general be released by morning, or all the villagers will be killed while the world watches on the internet, they also set up a nuclear missile and plan on firing it at Bangkok as soon as they have the general, but only the cop knows it, but he is captured too. He organizes the villagers and athletes and they take on the army, kicking some major ass. The soccer player kicking balls at gun wielding troops, people using gymnastics, and his sister using muay thai as does the village muay thai teacher, and old man I recognize from Ong Bak who bears a striking resemblance to Kitano Takeshi strangely enough. Tons of viillagers die, but of course they prevail, but without some spectacular stunts and fights, including crazy motorcycle stunts, and the end credits are amazing with behind the scenes footage of the stunts, damn that must hurt!!

This has some of the best action I have ever seen, and is a must see for action film fans the world over!!!
