Battlestar Galactica Season 2.5 created by Ron D. Moore (2006)

21 September 2006

The second half of this explosive series, finishing the Pegasus arc and continuing the compelling series and with a surprise Cliffhanger I am still trying to wrap my head around. It really blew me away, as I had no idea that this series would go there. This is an amazing show, one of the best and darkest on TV and everyone should be watching it.

REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS…

Bg2 5

These discs start with an extended version of PEGASUS running almost 20 minutes longer. It sees the return of the Battlship Pegasus and brings Adama (Edward James Olmos) under the command of the brutal Admiral Cain (Michelle Forbes). They have a Cylon prisoner that is the same model 6 (Tricia Helfer) who Baltar sees in his visions, and they have brutally raped her, and when Pegasus crew members try to do the same to the pregnant Sharon (Grace Park) Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) and Helo (Tahmoh Penikett) attack them and accidentally kill one of them and Cain has them taken to her ship and readied for execution. Adama refuses to accept it and sends out his vipers to get his men back.

RESURRECTION SHIP is another 2 parter. Lt. Starbuck (Katie Sackoff) on a recon in the stealth ship discovers the Cylon resurrection ship, which is where the dead Cylons download when they die and they are so far away from the Cylon homeworld, but she returns to the full conflict of the 2 captains, and the data gets them to stop for a while, and discuss things with Roslin (Mary McDonnell). They attack and manage to destroy the ship, but the conflict remains though neither captain kills the other when they had the chance. And Dr. Baltar (James Callis) releases the hurt 6 (Tricia Helfer) who murders Cain and escapes.

EPIPHANIES has an officer making death threats to Tigh (Michael Hogan) as Rosalin lies in bed about to die, and decides that the Cylon child that Sharon is carrying must die.

BLACK MARKET has Apollo (Jamie Barber) seeing a prostitute and getting involved with the Black Market and it’s leader who kills the new commander Jack Fisk (Graham Beckel). Apollo gets threatened, but he goes in and kills the leader, but leaves the Black Market intact because they now know the leaders and can watch it.

SCAR is about a confrontation between Starbuck and Kat (Luciano Carro) who is gunning for the top gun spot, and riding the increasingly alcoholic Starbuck who is depressed about the lover she left on Caprica. The 2 go up against Scar a wily Vulcan Raider Ace that keeps killing their viper pilots, who lies in wait since their is no more resurrection ship.

SACRIFICE has Adama leaning more and more on the pregnant Sharon for Intelligence and a embittered woman takes hostages to try to get them to kill her, and stop listening to her. Apollo is with Dualla (Kandyse McClure) now, and she breaks it off with Billy (Paul Campbell) who is killed and Apollo wounded by Starbuck.

THE CAPTAINS HAND has Roslin illegalizing abortion because mankind needs to procreate, and Baltar breaks and runs for President against her position, but is not doing so well. And a new leader of the Pegasus takes the ship out into a trap against Adama’s orders, but Apollo takes command and saves the ship, and then given it’s command.

DOWNLOADED is about Baltar’s Six who when downloaded back on Caprica still loved Baltar and in fact sees him as he sees her, and then the Chief’s Boomer who refuses to accept she is a cyclon. It seems the other Cylons are trying to get them to lose it, because they are heroes and they believe the attack on humans was wrong, but the 2 band together and decide to change the Cylons.

LAY DOWN YOUR BURDENS is a huge 2 parter with the election and Roslin trying to fix the election because Baltar has seized on colonizing a small almost uninhabitable planet that Starbucks rescue mission to Caprica accidentally discovered, and it has electrical interference that could keep the Cylons from finding it. Baltar wins, and the six he helped escape detonates a nuclear weapon destroying lots of the fleet. Cut to a year later and the fleet is very small, the Galactica and Pegasus on skeleton crews, and the people are mostly on Caprica with Baltar abusing his power and the people and things are very bad for the people. And to make matters worse the Cylons have found them. The Battlestars and the remaining fleet warp out leaving the people, and they are taken over by the Cylons who are led by Sharon and Six.

What a cliffhanger! Youch, I can’t wait to see what happens next.
