Battlestar Galactic Season 2.0 Created by Ron D. Moore (2005)
21 September 2006This is the first half of the second season of Ron D. Moore’s incredible update to the venerable Battlestar Galactica television series. This show is dark, with great characters and a compelling story-line, and these episodes end with a mid-season cliff hanger that not only brought in another element from the old show, but also made this show darker and more disquieting with more of humanity turning against itself. I really think this is one of the best shows on television and has really proven just how talented Ron D. Moore is.
REVIEW CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS…
SCATTERED comes back from the cliffhanger of Boomer (Grace Park) shooting Adama (Edward James Olmos) with President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) and Colonel Tigh (Michael Hogan) is in command, and they have lost the fleet through an emergency jump. RESISTANCE Tigh declares martial law, and is begin influenced by his wife and his alcoholism and is really screwing things up. Apollo helps Roslin escape to the fleet as he does not agree with his father’s or Tigh’s decisions vis a vis the government and Roslin.
THE FARM has Adama back in command, and trying to find Apollo and Roslin, while Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) awakens in a hospital on Caprica, and realizes it is a Cylon hospital and that they are using human women to bread. She manages to escape, and with the help of Sharon they get a large raider to go back to the fleet.
HOME is a 2 parter, with a third of the fleet following Roslin and returning to Kobal to wait for Starbuck to return with the arrow of Apollo, and Adama refuses to rejoin the fleet. Roslin must get help from the pregnant Sharon and her human lover Helo (Tahmoh Penikett) to find a temple on Kobol in order to lead them to Earth. Adama returns to Kobol with the fleet, and joins up with Roslin and makes peace, and Sharon saves Adama from a plot by one of the evil Tom Zarek’s (Richard Hatch) minions.
FINAL CUT has a reporter coming to the Galactica to humanize the crew, which she does warts and all, even though she is an undercover Cylon.
FLIGHT OF THE PHEONIX has Chief Falen Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) channeling his sadness from the loss of his Sharon, and her murder by Calli into making a new stealth viper, which he manages to do. And Adama must trust in Sharon to help stop a Cylon Logic Bomb.
PEGASUS sees the return of the Battlship Pegasus and brings Adama under the command of the brutal Admiral Cain (Michelle Forbes). They have a Cylon prisoner that is the same model 6 (Tricia Helfer) who Baltar sees in his visions, and they have brutally raped her, and when Pegasus crew members try to do the same to the pregnant sharon Tyrol and Helo attack them and accidentally kill one of them and Cain has them taken to her ship and readied for execution. Adama refuses to accept it and sends out his vipers to get his men back. An extended version of this episode starts the 2.5 disc.
Such a good show. Everyone should be watching this. This and Deadwood are really the best shows on TV, and the 3rd season is about to start.
