Battle of Britain by Guy Hamilton (1969)
17 January 2005This is an epic ensemble war picture detailing the Air Battle over Britain that kept the Nazi’s from invading during WWII. As I said it is an epic ensemble, which doesn’t really follow any specific characters but goes around the different units and comes back a few times to each story. The film itself is very good, and the air combat is amazing, if only the effects were up to par with the arial combat.

As you can see from the picture this film has an amazing cast, and shows the Battle of Britain from the side of the British, with some showing the side of the German’s (all in German). It shows from pilots in France having to run to Britain, and how they become experienced pilots. From the side of command. From the WAC’s. A very good look at the overall picture of the winning of the air war over England.
The flying footage is fantastic. With all the original planes! Sure the effects are pretty bad, but what can be expected for 1969.
