Apartment for Ladies by Umetsugu Inoue (1970)
I am a huge fan of Umetsugu Inoue and already own 4 of his other films, HONG KONG NOCTURNE, HONG KONG RHAPSODY, THE MILLIONAIRES CHASE and WE LOVE MILLIONAIRES. I love his off the wall silly musicals with beautiful female leads. And i love how they are always breaking into song. And that being said, this was another very enjoyable film. About women taking power and getting back at an evil playboy.

Betty Ting Pei (whose apartment Bruce Lee died in, in 1973) arrives in Hong Kong from Taiwan to find her missing 18 year sister, who is another singer, and was lured to Hong Kong by a playboy. She is almost raped herself, but a music producer, Wang (Yang Fang) finds her and brings her to his apartment building, where a floor above him is an apartment for ladies. There is a whole cast of characters here, a stripper, a girl who works at a Turkish bath, an older night club singer with her daughter who loves the boy (Barry Chan) of the woman who runs the apartment, MS Chan (Ouyang Shafei) (and is a man hater), and a younger night club singer out to take the older night club singes man and job. Of course it all circles around the playboy, George (Lee Pang Fei) who owns the nightclub and dumps women like handkerchiefs. They learn he had something to do with the sisters disappearance, and may have even caused her suicide.
SPOILERS:
The finale is the girls getting the night club owner for all his misdeeds, making him lose his nightclub and his house, and the girls beat and tickle him, including the lost sister, and the women who runs the apartment turns out to be the playboys ex wife, and the boy his son. And at the end the apartment allows boyfriends! It is a good fun ending with the women attacking the playboy and his scary looking manager!
This was a fun and enjoyable film with sad parts, and of course women fighting, sneaking, singing, battling. This has it all! Quite a fun film, not quite as good as Umetsugu’s other films, but I still quite enjoyed it.
