The same 2 chef’s as Cuidad, this was their earlier restaurant. Excellent gourmet Mexican food with great ingredients and very little oil, and excellent margaritas. Well trying out if you are down at the 3rd Street Promenade, but expect a wait if it is the weekend.

My father and I had 2 orders of Herradura Resposada Shakers of specialty Margaritas, which are served in a shaker and in 2 Martini glasses. Amazingly tasty though a tad on the small side for $20 for 2 glasses worth. Still well worth trying. I think the cointreau really makes a difference, as well as the good tequilas.

We got a Wild Mushroom Quesadilla, just dripping with cheese, and with big sizes of guacamole and sour cream and a watercress salad. Pretty tasty.

For dinner I had the excellent Carne Asada Tacos with grilled steak, Carmelzied onion, salsa fresca and guacamole served with red and green rice, and home cooked beans with the tacos in handmade corn tortillas. Absolutely delicious, and very light for tacos.

My father had Chicken Chilaquiles, which is Mexican style casserole layered with handmade corn tortillas, shredded chicken, tomatillo salsa, manchego, panela and cotija cheeses. I didn’t try it, but it looked great, and my dad was impressed.

My only complaint is that the salsa with the chips was tasty, but not hot enough for my tastes!

Still this place is excellent, and high class mexican food. Certainly worth a try.

An excellent and tasty family style mexican restaurant, with good food and cheap and tasty Margaritas ($3.5 to $4). The waitresses are dressed in costume and their is a Mariachi serenading the guests the whole time.

I highly recommend this place. Very tasty, and not too heavy, though not that spicy (well except my girlfriend (this was Nan Lan) ate 2 cooked jalepenós, and swallowed some seeds down the wrong pipe, and felt the burning in her ear. Ouch!!). I had the excellent Tacos Del Carbon, with the hand made corn tortillas they make in the middle of the restaurant, adn my girlfriend had the Chilli Relenos with the chicken enchiladas which she loved. Admitadly the Hot Sauce could be hotter, but this place is worth trying. And the lack of English spoken their should show you it is pretty authentic.

Actually I read about this place in Los Angeles Magazines, an they do warn not to have the Seafood, especially the really expensive Molcajete marycarmen, with split lobster, shrimp and bay scallops, which is supposed to be like rubber. I do want to try something in a Molcajete though, which is a hot 3 legged stone mortar, and comes heaped with food, but that should be saved for more than 2 people!

GOOGLE MAP

I had read about this place, from the Chef’s at the Border Grill, and had always wanted to try it, and my girlfriend had been there and enjoyed it, so we decided to go and have a nice evening meal. Their was an excellent hispanic band playing, and we got amazing seats on the patio right in front of them, as well as excellent breads and dips (one tasted like hummus and one an olive dip of sorts). And the food and drinks could not have been better. Really excellent.

We had a margarita special, which was 2 martini glasses and a shaker of margarita, good for 2 glasses each for us, and I must say it was the best margarita I ever had, and not only that but it got me really, really buzzed, and with only 2 glasses!

The food was exemplary. Nan Lan had a Stuffed Tomato and Chile Relleno, and a scrumptious tortilla soup. And I had a Argentine Guacho Steak, which is a caramelized jalape–o and roasted garlic stuffed beef rib eye with a salad and mashed potatoes and it was extraordinary. Quite delicious.

••••

I highly recommend this place for a date, but make sure you get a patio seat because the view of downtown is out of this world. Slightly expensive, with a meal for 2 going to run you around $100, but well worth the price.

The prices are fairly reasonable at this famous Los Angels watering hole. The food is alright, nothing too special, but I am not sure I have ever had fine dining mexican food. After eating it I burped all night. The Margaritas are what the place is known for though ,and they are pretty decent, still not the best I have had, and not the cheapest, but alright.

Their is valet parking for $3.50, though it takes forever to leave and get your, street parking would be better if you could park on any of the side streets.

They have an outdoor patio that is pretty nice, except the fact that it is smoking.

If you are really craving margaritas and mexican food go for it, but it really isn’t all that impressive, and could be less expensive.
