About Us

Whale of a Tale Productions is a small Post Production Company based in North Hills, CA, in the Valley north of Los Angeles.

The Company has been around since 2002 when Jonah Lee Walker started working as a Freelance Video Editor on the Lord of the Rings Special Editions DVD's.
Jonah Lee Walker is a Fast and Skilled Preditor, Compositor, Motion Graphics Artist and Colorist and is experienced in Video Compression (having learned it at Warner Bros. Online just before starting Whale of a Tale Productions). He is also a skilled colorist in DaVinci Resolve, or basic corrects with Lumetri in Premiere Pro.

Whale of a Tale currently runs on an iMac Pro 10 core 3.0Ghz with a Vega 64X and 64 Gigs of RAM, a second monitor an LG 4K 27", a BlackMagic UltraStudio 4K, an OWC ThunderBay 4 RAID 5, and a 4K Samsung Monitor. Also with the help of a Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K we now have the ability to do live edits and reviews via ZOOM, recreating the experience of working in an edit bay while working remotely.
We currently run, AVID Media Composer, Davinci Resolve Studio 17, Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2022, Adobe After Effects CC 2022, Red Giant Complete, VideoCopilot Element 3D, VideoCopilot Optical Flares, Neat Video Noise Reduction, Final Cut Pro X, Apple Motion.

We shoot our footage on a DJI Osmo Pocket 2 and a Canon 60D.
Jonah has cut narrative stories, behind the scenes, documentary, reality, direct response, commercials, and has years of experience with motion graphics and compositing including green screen compositing. He is an advanced user of all major editing systems and is skilled in many 3rd party plugs and is always learning new software.

Jonah Lee Walker is a native Islander, having been born on Marthas Vineyard Island off the coast of Massachusetts. At age 17 he moved to Southern California and attended the University of Southern California School of Cinema and Television, graduating Cum Laude with a degree in Cinema and Television Production.
Jonah had already been working in Commercial Production as a Production Assistant during his summers at USC, and after graduation he quickly moved into Assistant Coordinating and then into Production Coordinating as well as some Art Department Coordination.

After that Jonah went to work at Warner Bros. Online and worked doing editing and video compression.
From there Jonah got into editing and graphics on the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition DVD's, including running the assistant departments, and writing custom search software to search through the tons of logs needed to edit the extensive behind the scenes for these films.

He also worked on Peter Jackson's King Kong Special Edition DVD, including traveling to New Zealand to setup the editing for the Production Diaries, cutting a few himself and having Jackson personally approve them. And he came back to work on the first Hobbit Special Edition Blu-Ray.

Jonah worked on various other behind the scenes pieces including the award winning Hairspray DVD.

Jonah has also cut Reality Television including REMIX for BET.

For the last few years Jonah has had extensive experience both cutting and doing all the graphics in Direct Response and commercials. Working for 3 and 2 films, Havas Edge, Hawthorne Direct, Beach Body, Shareability and Inter-Media. He specializes in doing graphics and color correction as well as editing, creating the Call To Action graphics as well as editing them.

Jonah Edited did the Visual Effects and Color Correction for the short film GROUNDED, which was an official selection at 4 film festivals, The Los Angeles International Children's Film Festival 2022, The San Diego International Children's Film Festival 2022 (at Comic Con 2022), Love Your Shorts Film Festival 2022, and Kids First! Film Festival 2021. The short was directed by his wife, Kelly Pancho, a Television Producer and currently a studio executive at CBS Studios. In 2022 Jonah completed his short film THE MISADVENTURES OF BEAR which was accepted in 8 Film Festivals and has now been released. You can view it at it's own site.
He is also building a spaceship cockpit on his back porch for his next short film he is working, and has been shooting extensive green screen model shots for it (in his office).

Jonah is interested in becoming an assistant editor for scripted television and is rostered to the Editors Guild.

Jonah has also served as a panelist for the IFP Los Angeles Digital Seminars and at a a Colloquium for the University of Central Florida, Summer Film Internship Program with UCLA and Professor Robert Jones.
